So first a bit about the locomotive. All indications are that the body is that of the earliest Type 1 (maroon color, nickle pantographs and strap headlights, brass window frames). However the motor base/wheels don't line up with the journals and the motor itself is not the single-idler gear model supposed to be on this version (its 1/2 shorter so the wheels should line up with the journals on this 1925 version only), suggesting the motor base is from a Type II or later.
It has been re-wheeled and looks as if the bottom frame was re-painted, so don't know if this unusual combination was a factory transition, or a later repair. Loco runs fine see picture with transformer test...
Wheels blurry cause they're turning! Also, if anyone more knowledgeable about Lionel & Dealer practices back in the day that could explain this discrepancy, please let me know so I can share here.
I want to be as transparent as possible! Also includes the 512 gondola, 511 lumber (with replacement wood load), and 517 caboose. For most anyone but the purest collector, this is a fun stroll down memory lane with a working train made in 1925!
