To compete with the Pennsylvania's new "Trail Blazer" in 1939, the New York Central introduced its own deluxe all-coach train between New York and Chicago. The train initially utilized heavyweight cars painted in a "reversed" twotone gray scheme and featured more spacious seating along with lounge and dining service. The trains commanded a priority status and in 1940, the heavyweight cars were replaced with rebuilt streamlined equipment.
